screen context is read as structured text and controls via android accessibility. screenshots are sent to openai only when visual context is genuinely needed, and heytappr does not store raw screenshots in its own convex backend. processing needs the internet, this is not on-device ai.

what stays local, what you can wipe

memos and reminders you dictate are stored on-device. deep research runs in the cloud and produces a private, hard-to-guess link that auto-deletes within 24 hours, and device-linked research data can be wiped from inside the app.

heytappr is open source on github, so the claims above are checkable in code. the permissions it uses, accessibility and display-over-other-apps, are revocable in android settings anytime, and it is never listening unless you start a turn.

No, and we won't pretend it is. Reasoning and voice run on OpenAI's cloud models, and screenshots go to OpenAI when visual context is needed. What HeyTappr controls, it keeps conservative: no raw screenshots stored in its own backend, on-device memos, and wipeable research data.
Can it see my passwords or banking screens?
Protected and secure screens, like password fields and some banking screens, can block accessibility access entirely. HeyTappr also pauses itself automatically the moment you open a payment app.
