No. Being visible is not the same as listening. A voice turn starts only when you tap the notch or say the wake phrase, and it needs an internet connection to answer. It is Android only for now, with iOS on the roadmap.

two permissions, both revocable

the overlay needs display-over-other-apps permission, and screen reading needs accessibility access. no root, no adb, nothing exotic. you can switch either off in android settings whenever you want and the notch simply goes away.
